Hospital-Based Occupational Therapy

Life Hilton Hospital

Our occupational therapists work across the medical, surgical, oncology, high care, and ICU wards at Life Hilton Hospital. In the acute setting, our role is to assess how illness or injury impacts a person’s ability to function and to initiate early, goal-directed rehabilitation.

Services include:

  • Comprehensive functional assessments

  • Activities of Daily Living (ADL) retraining, including bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding, and mobility

  • Early physical rehabilitation to improve strength, endurance, balance, and functional movement

  • Cognitive screening and intervention addressing attention, memory, problem-solving, and executive functioning

  • Discharge planning and safety recommendations

  • Collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to support safe transitions of care

Rehabilitation-Based Occupational Therapy

Life Hilton Rehabilitation Centre

GH Therapy also provides occupational therapy services to patients admitted to the Life Hilton Rehabilitation Centre. As occupational therapists working across both acute and rehabilitation settings, we can provide continuity of occupational therapy care as patients transition through the rehabilitation process.

Rehabilitation services include:

  • Physical rehabilitation focusing on functional strength, coordination, endurance, and balance

  • ADL and instrumental ADL retraining, such as self-care, household tasks, and community functioning

  • Cognitive rehabilitation for individuals with neurological, medical, or age-related cognitive changes

  • Assistive device assessment, prescription, and training — including short-term and long-term equipment to support safety and independence, with specific expertise in wheelchair prescription, seating assessment, and postural support.

  • Home and environmental recommendations to support safe discharge and long-term independence

  • Caregiver training and education — supporting family members and caregivers with practical guidance, hands-on training, and education to safely assist with daily activities, mobility, cognitive support, and ongoing care needs following discharge.

Continuity of Care

A key strength of Greenhouse Therapy is continuity of care. Patients referred from Life Hilton Hospital to the Life Hilton Rehabilitation Centre often continue therapy with the same occupational therapy team, ensuring seamless transition, consistent goal setting, and a holistic rehabilitation journey.

Fitness to Drive Assessments

GH Therapy offers comprehensive Fitness to Drive Assessments, conducted by experienced occupational therapists, to determine an individual’s ability to drive safely and independently following medical, neurological, or age-related changes.

Who is it for?

Assessments are commonly completed for individuals with:

  • Neurological conditions (e.g. stroke, traumatic brain injury, dementia, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease)

  • Medical or cardiovascular conditions

  • Musculoskeletal conditions

  • Diabetes or conditions affecting alertness and cognition

  • Age-related changes impacting driving safety

What does the assessment involve?

Assessments include an off-road clinical assessment and, where indicated, an on-road driving assessment.

  • The clinical assessment reviews medical and driving history and evaluates physical, visual, cognitive, and perceptual skills required for driving.

  • On-road assessments are completed in the client’s own vehicle or a dual-controlled vehicle and progress from quiet roads to more complex driving environments.

Outcomes:

Clients receive clear verbal feedback and written documentation outlining:

  • Fitness to drive

  • Any recommendations or restrictions

  • Guidance regarding further rehabilitation or alternative transport where required

Reports can be provided for referring doctors, insurers, employers, or the Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC).

Our assessments are objective, evidence-based, and person-centred, with safety as the primary priority while supporting independence wherever possible.
